CHARLIE Daniels' second goal of the season meant Latics left the Matchroom Stadium with another 1-0 defeat and with only three points from the last 18.

The full-back scored the only goal of the game on 18 minutes, racing onto Adam Boyd's header before arrowing a 20-yard shot beyond Marlon Beresford.

For all their good work going forward, Athletic are lacking someone to put the chances away as their record of only 11 league goals in 13 games would testify.

Gary McDonald fired over from Craig Davies' cross, Deane Smalley headed Ryan Bertrand's free kick off target, while Andy Liddell and Neil Kilkenny also failed to test Stuart Nelson.

The home keeper only had one effort to save throughout the 90 minutes, pushing away Chris Taylor's effort with five minutes remaining.

It was Neal Trotman who came closest to an equaliser when his header was cleared off the line by Jason Demetriou three minutes later.

Adam Chambers had been thwarted by Bertrand's last-ditch tackle moments earlier as Orient sought a second on the counter-attack, but one goal proved sufficient for three points.
