Strugglers secure valuable points

LAST weekend’s matches in the Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance saw the bottom teams all record valuable points.

Visitors Copthorne batted first at Europa Exiles where they struggled in the face of some accurate bowling from Finn (4-30) and Clarke (3-9) as they were all out for 67.

The home side appeared set for an easy victory when they reached 40-0 in reply, only to lose quick wickets as Hussain took 3-12.

However, they eventually secured victory by reaching 68-6, Jarvey top-scoring with 20 as his side earned a useful six points.

There was a five-point victory for Radclyffe in their match against Foresters. Batting first, Radclyffe compiled 188-9 thanks to knocks from Chambers (63), White (30) and Ackroyd (27 not out).

Foresters were always struggling to reach that target and ended play on 133-8, Fuller hitting an undefeated 41 and Thaigarajan 28, while Wright (4-34) and Grimes (3-43) were Radclyffe’s best bowlers.

St Mary’s HC reached 123-8 in their game against Waterhead Methodist, Lawrence making 24 and Slater 21.

A close finish then saw Waterhead reach 125-7, Bramham (22) and Jolley (21 not out) giving them four points and Saints two.

Friends continued their challenge at the top with a 10-wicket victory over Newtonhurst. Wasim took 3-9 as Newtonhurst were dismissed for 45 before Friends secured the win and maximum points by reaching 46-0 in the seventh over.

AJK had a five-point win at Jay Hind where they made 279-4, Jasim (104) and Nazeer (78) batting well with Jay Hind 130-3 at the close.
