One win from Lords

30/ 7/2008

WOODHOUSES skipper Gareth Tuson is hoping for a more straightforward climax when his side face South Yorkshire’s Woodhouse Grange in the semi-final of the npower National Village Cup.

The Failsworth side reached the last four after they tied their quarter-final with Shipley Hall at Medlock Road on Sunday.

Both sides ended their respective innings on 181-6, only for Woodhouses to progress thanks to a better scoring rate after 20 overs, having reached 72-2 in response to Shipley’s 59-2.

Tuson said: "The last over was a complete killer. We needed nine from it and the first ball saw their bowler stop his run.

"He then bowled a no-ball which Alan Starmer was caught from, but because it was a no-ball, we got a run for that and ran a single as well.

"Alan and James Clarke then scored singles, and James hit a boundary before blocking out the final deliveries.

"Fortunately, Alan had checked the situation with the umpires in advance and knew we were 13 runs ahead."

Woodhouses host Woodhouse Grange on Sunday, August 10.
