Oldham do a double

OLDHAM enjoyed an excellent weekend in the Lake Garage CLL, taking nine points from their two matches.

They started with a six-run victory over against Middleton in which Oldham were dismissed for 186, Chris McDonnell hitting 50.

Middleton’s reply saw them in with a chance of victory before eventually ending their innings on 180-9, Liam Garnett with 4-23.

Sunday then brought a 43-run victory for the Pollards team against Crompton in the first of two local derbies.

Having won the toss and chosen to bat first, Oldham were dismissed for 168 during which Chinthaka Jayasinghe (pictured) struck 51.

Kevin Stoute starred for Crompton, taking 7-68, before his side started well in reply.

However, having seen Crompton put on a half-century stand for the opening wicket, Oldham began to take wickets regularly and sealed victory by bowling Crompton out for 125.

Crompton had gone into the game on the back of a comprehensive victory over basement club Ashton.

Batting first, Crompton compiled 227-9 against the struggling Tamesiders before dismissing the Rayner Lane side for 140.

Royton went down by five wickets against Walsden on Saturday as they were all out for 174 and saw their opponents reply with 177-5.

There was better news for them on Sunday as they got the better of Werneth, reaching 205-5 in reply to Werneth’s 203-9.

Werneth had also lost on Saturday, making 114-9 against Heywood who replied with 116-4.
