Heyside still holding on to top spot

HEYSIDE still hold top spot in the Armstrongs Saddleworth and District League following a win and a defeat from a weekend of two matches.

Professional Roelof Hugo reached 1,000 runs for the season as Heyside comfortably defeated Hollinwood on Saturday before losing by four runs against Austerlands 24 hours later.

Thirty points behind Heyside – albeit with a match in hand – are Bamford Fieldhouse after victories against Stayley and Saddleworth.

Stayley were all out for 58 on Saturday, while Darren Shadford struck 106 not out in Bamford’s 294-3 against Saddleworth.

The highest knock of the weekend came from Friarmere’s Zafar Iqbal who struck 125 against a Glodwick side who took that out on Uppermill on Sunday.

Moorside’s home victory against Hollinwood saw Lee Warburton include a hat-trick in his haul of 5-58, consolation for their defeat against Uppermill the day before.

Greenfield’s Peter Gill was the weekend’s most prolific wicket-taker with 6-81 against Shaw on Saturday.

Droylsden recorded a nine-wicket win over Austerlands before losing against Shaw.
