Heyside win battle of top two

SATURDAY’S showers restricted play to only three games in the Armstrongs Saddleworth and District League.

Heyside remained top of the league table following victory by five wickets against second-placed Uppermill.

Batting first, Uppermill compiled 160-4 thanks to good innings from Gary Crossley (47) and Matt Taylor (44 not out). However, Heyside managed to overhaul that total by replying with 162-5 as professional Roelof Hugo hit an undefeated 77, while Stephen Firth chipped in with 38.

Austerlands, competing with Bamford Fieldhouse for third place, recorded a comfortable eight-wicket victory at Greenfield. Having seen their hosts rack up 171-6, Austerlands then replied with 172-2 thanks to an undefeated 105 from overseas amateur Perudu Seneviratne.

A rain-reduced game brought a seven-wicket win for Moorside against Friarmere.

The visitors batted first and compiled 133-8, Lee Warburton returning figures of 5-67 for a Moorside team who replied with 137-3, Khan hitting 76 and Peter Broadhurst 40 not out.
