Roelof records season’s best innings

ARMSTRONGS Saddleworth and District League leaders Heyside registered the highest team and individual scores of the season in their victory against Friarmere last Saturday.

The pacesetters racked up a huge team score of 304-5 in which professional Roelof Hugo hit an unbeaten 185, Paul Jewitt taking 4-115 for the visitors.

Hugo’s display somewhat overshadowed the performance of team-mate Nick Campbell who struck 68 before taking 5-22 as Friarmere were dismissed for 176 in reply.

Uppermill consolidated second place in the table with an emphatic victory against Droylsden as Zeeshan Khan (84) and Gary Crossley’s undefeated 50 saw them overcome the Tamesiders’ 193 all out with nine wickets in hand.

Along with Uppermill, third-placed Bamford Fieldhouse are the team most likely to give Heyside the strongest challenge for the championship.

Facing Austerlands, Bamford compiled 247-8 thanks to Paddy McKeown (97) and Lincoln Roberts (93) before dismissing Austerlands for 203, Perudu Seneviratne top-scoring for them with 62 as Max Power ended with 4-51.

Glodwick are inching their way impressively up the league table, winning their third game from the last four by beating yet another of the top teams this season, Moorside.

They were led by professional Imran Aslam who, having taken 5-45 in Moorside’s 176-9, then struck an undefeated 92 in Glodwick’s reply of 177-7.  After an indifferent start to the season, Saddleworth’s slow but steady progress continued with a seven-wicket victory over Shaw.

Stephen Holmes returned figures of 6-20 as Shaw were all out for 193 before Saddleworth replied with 194-3.

Elsewhere, there was no play in the match between Hollinwood and Greenfield.
