Crompton are sent crashing

CROMPTON relinquished their place at the top of the Lake Garage Central Lancashire Cricket League when they slumped to a nine-wicket defeat at the hands of Heywood at Crimble.

Numerous rash strokes saw the league leaders bowled out with 18 overs still to be bowled, setting their opponents just 133 for victory.

Opener Darren Graham top-scored with 29 while captain Wright made 18, Aqib Zulfiqar and Danny Cashin hitting 17 each.

Overseas amateur Jason Searles removed Hardman early in Heywood’s reply but Ruvin Peiris and Royce Blight both capitalised on dropped catches to see their side to a nine-wicket win.

ROYTON pro Luke Procter’s fine 126 not out helped his side to a comprehensive 184-run win over Middleton.

Simon Harmer hit 81 as Royton put on 301-4 in 50 overs. Middleton then failed dismally with the bat, only professional Werner Coetsee making a decent contribution as they were bowled out for 117.

OLDHAM and Rochdale battled out a free-scoring game as pro Chinthaka Jayasinghe hit 154 and Paul Thompson 54 in Oldham’s 275-8.

In reply, Rochdale reached 260-9.

WERNETH lost their match against Radcliffe, who hit 213-8, Usman Tariq making 146 not out. The reply fell 28 runs short, Nathan Griffin top-scoring with 64.
