OLDHAM North Stars suffered two defeats when they travelled to face Birmingham Maple Leafs in a league double-header last weekend.

Facing a side which has been playing for five years, the North Stars struggled to impose themselves in the first game despite some improved pitching.

Although Oldham were able to steal some bases when they batted, the hosts’ defence prevented them from scoring a run as the Maple Leafs recorded a 19-0 victory in the first game.

The second match saw the North Stars produce their best defensive performance of the year in restricting Birmingham to 12 runs thanks to some more solid pitching from Fraser.

However, despite debut hits for Baxendale and Owen, Oldham failed to put together multiple hits in any of their innings and were again hindered by the home side’s tight and accurate defending.

North Stars are back in action at the weekend when they travel to play Sheffield Blade Runners in the first round of the Challenge Cup.
