ROYTON and Crompton earned the local bragging rights by recording derby victories in last Saturday’s Lake Garage CLL matches.
Crompton got the better of Oldham by one wicket at the Pollards where the home side had batted first and were all out for 125.
Crompton’s overseas amateur Jevon Searles took 7-64 for Crompton who looked in trouble when they slumped to 81-7 in reply. However, despite Stuart Moore taking seven wickets for the home side, it was Crompton who squeezed over the finishing line.
In the other local game, Royton recorded a seven-wicket victory against Werneth at the Paddock. Luke Procter collected four wickets and Glenn Dickinson three as Werneth were shot out for 136. Procter than starred with the bat in reply, compiling an unbeaten 53 while Ian Halliwell made 41 as Royton took home maximum points.
Sunday proved to be a better day for Oldham as they defeated Royton in a rearranged round of fixtures. Oldham recorded an emphatic victory by 148 runs at the Pollards where they totalled 248-9.
Overseas amateur Nick Maree was Oldham’s top scorer with 66 while Sri Lankan professional Chinthaka Jayasinghe added 64. In reply Royton were unable to recover after losing a clutch of early wickets, Moore taking another five scalps as the visitors were all out for 100.
Crompton earned their second victory of the weekend as they saw off Milnrow by 98 runs. Batting first, Crompton were all out for 224 as Kevin Stoute top-socred for them with 66. He then took 7-48 with the ball as Milnrow were all out for 126, giving Crompton another five points.
However, the news was not as good for Werneth who were beaten by 65 runs in their match at Middleton. Having seen the home side bat first and rack up 268-4, Werneth were left hanging on at 203-8 in reply.
Luke Swards took 5-49 as the hosts were all out for 153 before Mike Cassidy (71 not out) and Alan Starmer (60 not out) saw the Medlock Road men to 154-1 in reply.
Group A saw Greengate fall just short against visiting Copthorne, dismissed for 198 chasing Copthorne’s 207-9 in which Assim made 53 and Ahmed 51.
In Group B, Europa Exiles compiled 186 against Radclyffe, Farrow with 60 and Powall 36. Radclyffe were then skittled for 87 in reply as Hodgson took 3-2 and Clinton 3-30 for Europa.
There was a low-scoring Group D encounter at St Mary’s HC where the home side were all out for 77. Waqas took 3-18 for Waterhead Methodist who were 37 all out in reply as Mello ended with 5-13 and Ormerod 4-16.
That group also brought a 54-run victory for Newtonhurst over Star Eleven. Boyle made 54 and Turner an unbeaten 33 in Newtonhurst’s 134-3 before Drummond returned figures of 3-20 to leave Star Eleven all out for 80.
