Derby delight for paddock men

14/ 5/2008

ROYTON emerged with the derby day honours when they defeated Crompton in their Lake Garage CLL match at the Paddock last Saturday

Batting first, the home side made 199 all out with Ryan Harding making 43 before a mid-innings collapse blunted their progress.

Kevin Stoute took 4-68 while Jevon Searles chipped in with 3-60 for a Crompton side who lost early wickets in reply.

Having lost Darren Graham, they saw Stoute, Searles and Simon Wright all fall victim to Luke Procter.

Although Aqib Zulfiqar hit 28 for the visitors, his efforts were not enough as Crompton lost wickets steadily throughout their reply and were all out for 101.

Procter ended with 4-46 and Glen Dickinson 4-28 to give Royton maximum points.

Oldham were also victorious, winning by five wickets at Clifton where they were inspired by new professional Jayasinghe.

The home side were dismissed for 172 before Jayasinghe flayed his way to an unbeaten 143 as Oldham reached 173-5.

A rain delay meant Werneth’s home match with Littleborough ended in stalemate.

Littleborough had batted first and made 190-8 before Werneth’s reply was cut short by the showers as they ended their innings on 176-8.

Woodhouses endured mixed fortunes in the Lancashire County League with a win and a defeat from their weekend double-header.

Sunday saw them record a five-wicket victory over Irlam as Luke Swards’ 5-44 saw Irlam all out for 131, Woodhouses reaching 134-5 in reply.

The day before, the Medlock Road men had lost by 47 runs against Glossop as they were all out for 165 chasing Glossop’s 212 all out.
