A Prince among men

LANCASHIRE CCC have announced that South African Test batsman Ashwell Prince will be the club’s interim overseas player for the start of the 2010 season.

The 32-year-old will join the club from the start of the season and will stay until the arrival of Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara once he completes his commitments at the ICC Twenty20 World Cup and the proposed Asia Cup.

WERNETH took the derby honours as they won Sunday’s Lake Garage CLL derby against Royton at the Coppice with eight wickets down.

Heyside staged the final of the Fawcett/Penney Supplementary Cup, and in a game reduced to 30 overs, Heyside won the toss and invited Greengate to bat.

ARMSTRONGS Saddleworth and District Cricket League leaders Bamford Fieldhouse suffered an eight-wicket defeat at Uppermill on Saturday.

Batting first, Bamford produced a respectable score of 231 all out, only for Zeeshan Khan’s undefeated 116 and Nathan Boote’s 53 to see the hosts reach 233-2 in reply.

Facing Clifton on Saturday, Crompton saw professional Mohamed Zaman Khan hit a formidable 154 in their innings of 290-7.

OLDHAM hung on to defeat Walsden by nine runs in their Lake Garage CLL encounter at the Pollards last Saturday.

Batting first, the home side compiled 164-9 from their overs, largely built around an innings off 33 from Chris McDonnell.
