£3,000 daily - that's why you have to help!
10/12/2004
DR KERSHAW'S needs the help of Advertiser readers to continue providing assistance that has been invaluable to borough patients, families and carers for the past 15 years.
With a team of 34 staff and 60 volunteers, the Turf Lane hospice treats the needs of 12 in-patients and up to 75 day-patients five days a week.
Modern-day hospices serve in-patients and day visitors in a vastly different way than hospital. As well as providing an environment in which terminally ill patients can end their days in dignity, they also offer a holistic approach of treating both mind and body.
The hospice has undergone two expansions since opening in 1989 and has a third and final phase planned, including the refurbishment of kitchens and relocation of the chapel of rest, at a projected cost of £750,000.
But as the scale of the operation grows, so too does the daunting task faced by fundraisers. The hospice costs £3,000 daily to run and with next year's running costs alone standing at an estimated £1.1 million, more than £800,000 must come from donations and fundraising.
That is why we are urging every Advertiser reader to help our appeal and make a difference. We are all in a position to help.
