POLICE in Oldham have launched a fresh appeal for help on the second anniversary of the murder of 26-year-old Filipino nurse Debbie Remorozo.

They believe Debbie was killed by someone she knew and know that person could be being protected by a friend or family member who has yet to come forward.

The case has remained open since Debbie's body was found at her flat in Summervale House, Vale Drive, Oldham, on Sunday, December 8, 2002.

Debbie had been working at the Royal Oldham Hospital as a coronary care nurse and was last seen alive walking home from work the day before.

She finished her shift at the hospital at 3.30pm that Saturday and arrived at her flat shortly before 4pm.

At 5.40pm on the following day Debbie's body was discovered at her flat by a group of her friends and a post-mortem subsequenly revealed that she had suffered multiple stab wounds to her chest and neck.

Detective Superintendent Steve Heywood, who is leading the enquiry, said: "We are still actively pursuing lines of enquiry and we will not rest until we have caught the killer or killers.

"Someone knows the identity of the offender. It is not too late to come forward."

Detectives were able to recover DNA from the scene which they believe will identify Debbie's killer.

They are therefore urging anyone who thinks that they may know who was involved in the incident to contact them, so they can eliminate names from their enquiries using DNA profiling.

Officers believe that Debbie knew her killer and are offering a £10,000 reward to anyone who can provide the vital information needed to secure a conviction, even if that information is given anonymously.

  • IF anyone has any information they would like to pass on to the murder investigation team, they can call 0161 856 3618 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
