Join us and Sparta to be a winning Latics saver (first published 21 Nov 2002)

LATICS kit manufacturer Sparta is the latest organisation to join the Advertiser's 'I'm Backing Latics' campaign.

The Stockport-based company, which has supplied the club's kit for three seasons, was delighted to join our initiative. What is more, they are offering a tracksuit to the first vehicle that is seen at Latics' match on Saturday bearing one of our car stickers.

Richard Marshall, part of the management team at Sparta, said that Latics' plight was of particular significance to the company.

He said: "We don't do any other professional clubs. We do Mossley's kit and mostly semi-professional kit so Latics are our only contracted side. We were not shocked to hear about their situation because of the state of the game at the moment.

"You are not surprised that any club is in financial difficulty - the collapse of ITV Digital seemed to upset a lot of clubs. We were more upset for Latics because our managing director Steve Rhodes is a big Latics fan."

When Sparta heard about our campaign they were more than happy to pitch in and do their bit. Putting any financial interest to one side, Richard said it was important for Oldhamers to get behind their club, starting with Saturday's match at home to Cheltenham Town.

He said: "It's an excellent campaign, we are totally behind anything that could help Latics and get more people into Boundary Park."

To find out if you are one of our prize or cash winners all you have to do is go to Latics' home games and buy a programme where the winning number plates will be revealed. At the end of the season all the weekly winners will be placed into a grand draw with the winner receiving a holiday for two in Italy donated by the Oldham Advertiser.
