Great Run was family affair

A COUPLE from Radcliffe completed the Great Manchester Run, raising cash for a charity that has helped their sick children.

While they’re yet to collect all their sponsorship, Nichola and David Holdroyd have raised an estimated £500 to £600 for When You Wish Upon a Star, by way of thanks for the help the charity has provided their two daughters.

When You Wish Upon a Star is a small charity which grants ‘wishes’ for sick children around the UK by, among other things, arranging holidays for the youngsters or giving them the chance to meet lifelong heroes.

In the past the charity has helped the Holdroyd’s two daughters, eight-year-old Lauren and one-year-old Francesca, who both suffer from Crouzon syndrome, prompting the Holdroyds to show their gratitude by taking part in the sponsored run.

The couple, who live in East Street, finished the run in a respectable one-and-a-half-hours, but despite a strict training regime, Nichola still found it hard.

She said: "We managed to finish the race which was good. My husband found it pretty easy but I found it a bit harder.

"It was a really good day though, lots of fun.

"We were both very tired afterwards and just came home and crashed."

Nichola added: "We didn’t expect to raise that much, we’re very grateful for all our sponsors."

Maria Moseley, manager at When You Wish Upon a Star, said: "They’re an amazing family.

"We provided a wish for them and they’ve paid us back tenfold."
