Bungling teen burglars are caught red-handed

16/ 4/2008

TWO prolific teenage burglars proved they weren’t quite the criminal masterminds they thought they were after being caught in the act.

A 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, locked himself in the car he was trying to steal when confronted by its owner.

And his 16-year-old accomplice earned himself another court appearance when he tried to sell stolen goods to an off-duty policeman.

The 17-year-old, who has been jailed for six months, returned to a house in Top Street he had previously burgled to steal the BMW 325 and Mini, having taken both sets of car keys three days earlier.

But the homeowner saw the blundering youth appear live on his CCTV screen while he was at home reviewing film footage of the original crime.

When the teen realised he was about to be caught he panicked and locked the car door, but was unable to drive away because the keys had been reprogrammed. He stayed there until police arrived and arrested him.

Last Thursday the youth admitted two further burglaries, including £3,340 of electrical goods and jewellery from Watersheddings Way on January 16 and £555 of computer equipment from a home in Mayfield Road on February 20.

He also admitted the attempted burglary of a Ludlow Park home on March 10, as well as burglary, criminal attempts, handling and driving offences at Top Street on March 13.

Despite a plea from his solicitor to give him one last chance, Oldham Magistrates ordered the youth – who has previous convictions for drugs offences and dishonesty dating back to 2006 – to a young offenders’ institution.

After the court case, the homeowner from Top Street, who did not want to be named, said: "The CCTV from the burglary showed exactly who was responsible. I could see their faces clear as day.

"Then another image came up and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the lad sitting in my car right outside.

"As soon as I got outside, his mate ran off and he locked the car door.

"He must have though he was going to get beaten up. He looked terrified."

The second teen admitted his part in the Top Street and Ludlow Park burglaries, as well as a burglary on Radcliffe Street on January 31.

The 16-year-old also made the police’s job a lot easier by helping to steal a £300 from Breeze Hill School on February 27 and then trying to sell it to an off-duty policeman.

The youth – who has a similarly prolific criminal record of public disorder, criminal damage and burglary convictions dating back to 2006 – was given one last chance by magistrates to turn his life around and handed a 12-month intensive supervision order and electronic tag.

WHAT A PAIR OF LOW LIFE MUPPETS !!!!!!!

It seems that they are VERY well known to the Police !!!!, well now that they have been caught "RED HANDED" -- yet again !!! -- lets give them a proper lesson, not just 8 months in an institution !!!! Just a pity that the Householder concerned did not meet out his own form of Justice to the little **** !!!! With cases like this ever on the increase it must surely be time to give REAL DETERRENTS ????, OTHERWISE LAW ABIDING RESIDENTS WILL BE FORCED TO START FORMING VIGILANTE GROUPS IN ORDER TO PROTECT THEMSELVES AND THEIR BELONGINGS !!!
