Three guest pupils end up in hospital

THREE pupils ended up in hospital when a course involving youngsters from different schools resulted in violence.

The teenagers, from Kaskenmoor, were part of a group of six who had travelled across town to take part in a five-day course at Counthill.

Ambulance crews and the police were called three times on Tuesday as tensions ran high at the host site on Counthill Road.

At 9.25am, a 14-year-old girl from Kaskenmoor suffered injuries after she was allegedly kicked in the head by two other girls.

A police spokeswoman said that the girl’s parent was called and has yet to decide whether to press charges.

The child was taken to the Royal Oldham for treatment.

Two hours later police and ambulance crews were dealing with a 16-year-old male pupil from Kaskenmoor who was suffering from head injuries and a nosebleed. He also went to hospital.

And 20 minutes later ambulance crews ferried a third Kaskenmoor pupil to hospital, although their age and injuries are unknown.

At 1.15pm a neighbour reported pupils throwing a chair around in the street. Officers, still trying to sort out earlier events, investigated but the culprits had gone.

However, Counthill head Margaret Ryan claimed, when contacted, that there had been just one incident.

She said: "An incident took place this morning between Counthill pupils and the visiting Kaskenmoor pupils. The incident was dealt with by the school and the police called.

"Two Counthill pupils were taken home by the police and the school was returned to normal by Counthill staff. Three Kaskenmoor pupils were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure."

l Both schools have been earmarked for closure under plans for new academies.
