I’m so relieved my court nightmare is over
5/ 9/2007
A TOP Oldham student who feared her career hopes would be shattered after she was prosecuted for putting her feet on a train seat has walked free from court.
Full story and video report here ...
An on the spot fine would also have been a reasonable way to treat this offence. To take action that would lead to a criminal record and perhaps have a life long effect on the young lady's career aspirations is totally unreasonable. Let's have a sense of proportion here.

they should have not made a big deal out of this. She has also made a big deal about it. Cant be that scarey. She needs to stop going to the papers too. I want better things to read about.

If only this girl and her apologists did but know it, this seemingly minor travesty sits at the very heart of just about everything that's wrong with so-called "British society" - (or what's left of it) - today...!
There's no justice... There really isn't...! All we have now is the power that wealth, celebrity, privilege and/or the sheer luck that circumstance might bring. As Dina writes, (lower down) - 'If she had not been young and attractive,' etc,... In other words, without "story" appeal, no one would ever have heard of this girl. And she would, by now, have quietly joined the countless others who've been fined by Merseyrail. As she thoroughly DESERVES to be...

The MerseyRail response may be heavy-handed, but the fact remains that everyone is aware that they shouldn't put their feet on the seats. No-one wants to sit on a seat where thoughtless people have had their feet. The student concerned is very lucky to have got off so lightly - I wonder what would have happened if she had not been young and attractive?

Far from "harshly treated," this young lady was handled with quite inexplicable leniency; her seemingly quite minor but in fact pretty selfish misdemeanour all but rewarded by court officials - blindly bowled along on the hysterical crest of a media-generated wave - who really aught to know better...!

Guilty, but let off.
Why? when others are not. What a confusing and bad example to set to our youth.
Weak and inconsistant courts such as this one undermine our nation of law and order and should be closed.

earlier on in the year me and my wife took a bus down to manchester when we got off the bus the back of my wifes dress was made dirty by the seat she had sat on so as far as I am concerned the act of putting ones dirty shoes on another persons seat is anti social and a 19-year-old should know better.
