Anyone for change?

by Carl Marsden
7/ 5/2008

CONGESTION charging, fortnightly bin collections and academy schools are still on the agenda – despite a change in leadership at Oldham Council.

In his first interview since being named the new leader of the local authority, Liberal Democrat Howard Sykes says he has no immediate plans to rip up the blueprint laid down by the outgoing Labour group.

Given the fuss Lib Dem's made in Hollinwood on the doorstep and in their election material about supporting campaigners in retaining the green space on the Oak colliery site...residents on hollins road and collier hill who were persueded to vote lib dem may now feel very betrayed by this announcement. How will they now cope with the david joines campaign?

Whilst a view that scrapping communnity councils for area committees, to consider rebranding.......resurrects the image of the "punch and judy" show with the greens bashing new labour and lib dem's across the head that persueded most sane people to go elsewhere on Failsworth and Hollinwood area committee night.

The idea that such a set up could possibly constructively revisit rebranding is ludicrous unless the lib dems are` also resuurecting larry the lamb and oldham is comparable to toy town? As for congestion charging and fortnightly bin collections...if lib dems are doing nothing then their election material in Hollinwood was even more misleading!
