Mike Keegan
17/ 4/2008

IT'S a quiet Pennine hamlet best known for its medieval pubs and annual brass band contest.

But the village of Denshaw has now attracted an unwelcome notoriety on the internet after it was targeted by online wicked whispers.

A series of anonymous entries in the web encyclopaedia Wikipedia have lampooned locals with a series of barbed comments and insults.

Cllr Ken Hulme said: "I think it's absolutely hilarious. The BBC or ITV could do with finding out who's responsible and offering them a job as a scriptwriter!"

As regards the Golden Fleece, it's a great pub and lovely grub, though perhaps a little pricey.
