Bank charges verdict effect...

25/ 4/2008

THE High Court ruled that charges levied by banks for unauthorised overdrafts are subject to regulation by the Office of Fair Trading under "unfair contract" rules.

The judge, Mr Justice Andrew Smith, did not rule that charges are actually unfair, or say what a fair charge would be. That is now up to the OFT, which brought the case, along with seven high street banks and a building society, to clarify.

i think the bank charges are naff, they tell you not to bury your head if you have financial difficulties, so we tell them we're in a spot of bother and that we have d/debits due to go out, what do they do, they say dont worry about it, just ride it out for this month, then they dont pay the bills and have left us with about £3oo.oo charges for the privalige of not paying the bills. hows that for injustice, we are now even further in debt than we were before. so much for doing the right thing and not making like an ostrich.
