Revved up to rock

Adam Moss

HE'S spent years travelling the world as a broadcaster - but motorbike and rock music fanatic Steve Berry is finally going to work in his home city.

Steve, who was the motorbike expert for TV's Top Gear until 1999, is the latest big name to sign up as a presenter on Manchester's new Rock Radio station.

"There's nothing out there for people like me at the moment. Where else can you turn on and hear AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, The Who and the rest back-to-back?

Completely true and I'm very happy to see it.

Heard Steve's stints at BBC Radio Manchester and thought he was excellent. The test transmission of Rock Radio are sounding good too, but when it comes to the station's "talk commitments" I hope Rock Radio will:-

1: Bid for City & United commentary rights - and provide Manchester with a good pre & post match phone-in show a-la "James & The Doc" of yore. 2: Provide a quirky "Manchester" based late night phone-in show, a-la James H Reeve of yore too. 3: Give us a good 5 minutes of Manchester produced "news & sport" on the hour and 'precisely' on the hour!! 4: Employ a varied selection of new & experienced presenters - and definitely none of Eamonn O'Neal's "cronies & relatives" from the abysmally failing BBC Radio Manchester!!

Not much to ask, is it?? I'll definitely be tuning in.
