DRAMA: Mercy, Lowry, Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 July

AWARD-winning theatre group Northern Gap is unique among youth drama companies.

Formed so people aged 18 to 25 could spend their gap years producing professional theatre, the latest offering from its wealth of young talent will be on show at The Lowry next week.

Mercy, by Lin Coghlan, and a newly commissioned play Cracked, by Brian Marchbank, open the company’s new season following its success at last year’s Buxton Festival Fringe.

Mercy is an epic and visionary play in which a group of mismatched characters are thrown together by decisions they face as they leave a city ravaged by unexplained flood and fear – a situation that brings out the best and worst in them.

Cracked is set in the seedy, crime-ridden underworld.

Deeply buried secrets are unearthed at the will disclosure of a third-rate criminal and fourth-rate father, Eddie Stubbs, following his violent death.

The production goes from The Lowry to The Old Clubhouse at the Buxton Fringe Festival on July 21 and 22.
