Oldham Expats - try our map!

ARE you a former resident of Oldham who has moved abroad and who wants to get back in touch with people still living in the town? Do you know of friends or family who have moved overseas and you want to try and track them down? Well here's your chance with our new interactive map ...

In this section, we're giving an opportunity for people who were parted when locals decided to make new lives overseas to make contact once again.

If you are an ex-pat, who wants to know the whereabouts of a pal or relative, send us the details and we'll post them up here. The same is true of locals - let us know if you want to get back in touch with a local who has left these shores. You never know - they might just visit this site, read your message and you could be reunited.

Alternatively, ex-pats can write to us simply if they want to let the folks back home know what they've been up to, how life overseas is treating them, and what they miss about their home town.

All you have to do to take advantage of this service is to click here to go to our interactive map of the world , then click on the part of the map where you live. Your own pinpoint will appear which you can move to the exact location you want (use the controls on the top-right of the map to move around and to zoom in and out, right down to street level).

A form will also appear which will allow you to give your name, contact details, reason for moving and anything else you want to share with us.

I am searching for the family of Dr August Albert Orr who was in general practice in Oldham. He died in 1981 and his wife Winifred in 1994. They had 3 children Margaret J, Jennifer M and Nigel S. I am an Australian cousin who will be in the area in October/November and would like any information that is available about the family and Dr Orr in the hope I may be able to track them down in order to meet. Hello Oldhamers,I am interested in getting in touch with anybody who attended St.Mary's RC Sec School between 1950 and 1953,also anyone who was a member of the St John Pipe Band from 1955-1957. I was also a member of the Manchester City Police frm Dec 1961 until March 1966 when i came to Canada.I was stationed on the "B"Division. My mother Lilian Thorley was a war bride from the Miles Platting-Oldham area. She also worked for a firm called Mather & Platts. I now live in Toronto Canada but grew up in North Bay Ontario Canada where my mother emigrated to. Hi All. Not sure you would class living in Wales for 41 years as expat.I`m trying to find anyone who played in the Oldham Schools Band which visited Guernsey in the early 60`s under the Conductorship of Peter Gartside. I was the bass drum player when marching but trombonist and E flat basist when seated. Can anyone remember L`Islet and going to see The Great Escape in St Peter Port.

I am looking for any information regarding the time my uncle spent in England from 1957 to 1967. He sadly passed away a few years back and that part of his life has always been a mystery as he didn’t speak much about it. From the little bits of information that I have gathered over the years, I know he lived in Oldham during this time. He was connected to Platts in some way. Also during this time its been suggested that he knew 2 ladies, one being Margaret and the other Diane. I don’t have any information on their surnames but have some photos. His details are as follows, Name: Kisten Narayanan, Known in the U.K. as Billy. A South African but of Indian descent. I would really appreciate it if anyone has any information with regards to this, even if it doesn’t lead to anything.I am willing to email the pictures to anyone who believes that they could be of help. I am looking for decendents of the John & Edith Wolstenhulme family who lived in Oldham in the early 1900's. Their children were John, Hector, Edith Marie, & Letitia. I have postcards written by some of the family members to my Grandma, Florence (Gratton) Deards, (Edith's sister). I have a postcard showing that John & Edith lived at 184 Radcliffe St., Oldham in 1908. Edith was the only daughter of Thomas & Sarah (Mottram) Gratton to have stayed in England. Thomas died sometime between 1905 & 1908. His wife, Sarah, and children, Tom, Annette, Alice, and Florence (my Grandma) all came to the USA in the summer of 1907. I moved to Brittany, France, 13 years ago, and well before that I'd lost all contact with my cousins in Oldham. I'd really like to hear from any of the following: Sheila and David Pilkington,offspring of Barbara and Ralph, Graham Cooper( parents ran a pub, the White Stone), also his sister Joyce.( must be in their late 50's now). Looking for Margaret Timmins (nee Ogden) who used to live in Clarksfield. Her dad's name was Neville Ogden and she had an older sister called Clare who was a nurse in the late 60s. I am trying to find any one of a group of lads I met in Dahab, Egypt, Sinai, in December 1994 ( I think that's the year, ?) There were five of them, all from Oldham to the best of my memory. Anyhow, the only one I remember the full name of was Nick Wharfe who had been in the navy. We had a great holiday and they were a really nice blokes. I would love to find out how they are, and would love to hear if they ever went back to Dahab. We were there over New Year and I often think of them at this time of year.
