A WOMAN who ran Fairbrother’s biscuit stall on Accrington Market for many years, Mrs Laura Green, has died in the Royal Blackburn Hospital aged 87.
The stall had been in her family since the market opened and she was joint owner until she retired in the early 1980s.
Mrs Green, of Thorn Cottage, Knowlsey Road, Wilpshire, lived in Manchester Road, Accrington, after the war and then moved to Towneley Avenue, Huncoat, for about 10 years.
She was a policewoman in the early 1940s and then joined the Army during the war.
During her time in the police force she was a driver for the Chief Constable and superintendents.
She was well-travelled, visiting Morocco and America many times in the 60s, 70s and 80s, and spent the winter in Spain with her husband Fred for many years.
She enjoyed sewing, was an avid reader, loved going out in the car and played whist all around Lancashire until she broke her hip last year.
As well as her husband, she leaves a daughter Susan, son John, grandchildren Kirsty, Craig, Yvonne and Kathryn and great-grandchildren Ben,Tabitha, Cory, Lola and Harriet.
The Rev John Hartley will conduct the funeral at Pleasington Crematorium on Wednesday 3 September.
