THUGS carried out a vicious machete attack on two men outside a pub.

The victims, both 24, are said to be in a serious condition in hospital following what police described as an 'unprovoked attack' outside the Mare and Foal on Ashton Road West, Failsworth, just after 2am on Saturday.

Two cars pulled up and men armed with machetes and an iron bar attacked the two and a third man as they walked along the pavement.

Both men suffered a series of nasty cuts to their heads and limbs. Both were said to be in serious condition in the Royal Oldham Hospital today. A third who was struck by the iron bar also went to hospital but was later discharged.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. The men who carried out the attack are believed to have been travelling in a silver Vauxhall Astra or Ford Focus.

Det Con Kate Dawson, of Oldham CID, said: "This was a horrific attack on a group of men who were going about their business.

"Two of them are seriously hurt and it is vital we catch the men who carried this assault out, so if you saw what happened or you know who is responsible, I'd urge you to call us."
